About the Author

She Sciences is authored by a female, millennial engineering Ph.D. student at an R1 university in the United States. After experiencing extensive adversity during her graduate program, she started this blog as a way to share her experiences and provide advice for current students in STEM. During these challenges, she took to Google and the internet to look for advice that was unbiased and objective. Unfortunately, Reddit posts were full of snarky comments, while other blogs and articles were written in the context of other academic disciplines, generations, or other countries. So nothing seemed to be helpful or what she was looking for.

And now here were are, She Sciences is a place where you’ll find actually helpful advice and tips for surviving and succeeding in your STEM degree (both undergraduate and graduate) and career. She Sciences strives to students in STEM face challenges in learning how to study, being successful in courses, being prepared for grad school, being successful in research, and preparing for a job. It is She Sciences goal to help women in STEM by giving practical advice for success and navigating the academic world.

Diversity and inclusion are an essential part of the scientific and academic process, as individuals from different backgrounds and experiences bring unique contributions to the table. In order to tackle systematic oppression in higher education and STEM, we as a community will work on the individual level to learn, grow, and change so we can lead others to do to the same.
